Moving from Dreamweaver to WebSphere Portal
OECTA is a teachers’ union that represents 36,000 men and women who teach in 1,411 Ontario Catholic schools, in all grades from Junior Kindergarten to the end of high school.
The website primarily serves these members, the presidents of the 81 local bargaining units, over 1,400 volunteer staff representatives located in each of the schools, OECTA’s head office personnel, as well as staff at related organizations. When it was slated for renewal, the website functioned largely as an information site and document-repository and had grown quite large.
IBM’s Workplace Web Content Management (WCM) software was acquired by OECTA for the redevelopment.
NetPotential was later engaged to identify what the organization could and should accomplish online to better serve its members, staff, and administrators throughout the province.
The strategy identified ways to help strengthen member affinity; increase OECTA’s ability to interact with members and engage them in its programs; enhance its ability to work and interact with local units; and increase users’ ease in finding information. The site architecture was restructured to better meet the needs of the members and the organizations objectives while accommodating the intertwining of private and public content.
